German championship 24-Hour-Race at Reichenbach, Germany |
On Friday afternoon one car after the other filled up the parking lots
in front of the sport hall at Reichenbach. Between
Saturday and Sunday the 19th Night of Reichenbach
will take place. The most of the participants arrive on Friday. So they have
enough time to rest for the hard 24-hour. In addition it is possible to talk
with friends and meet new friends as well. The little restaurant next to the
sport-resounds was excellent, because it was not a long walk. Saturday
morning before the run there was a breakfast buffet, which was organised by
the organisation. Strengthened people did their last preparation for the
race. The ones which have not achieved a place at the support area had big
problems to find a free area. At 10am there was the start. At hot and humid
temperatures there was the start signal. The course was mainly in open air,
without shadow. So it was very important to protect from the sun radiations.
Without question, here very large
praise was to be given to the adjacent resident. They provided the runners
with tubs of cool water around the course. They refilled the tubs all the
time, so that the water always stays cool. It was excellent for runners to
cool down their body. However people should drink enough, too. Even the most
runners started in a very slowly pace, the sun left her marks. Fortunately
the heavy thunderstorms, which were broadcasted for the evening, did not
come. At the afternoon it was getting cloudy, which made it much more
pleasant. Some times the sun broke through the clouds. But then there were
coming up dark thunderclouds and bolts are lighting the air. Even thunder and
bolts it was not too bad. During the night it cooled down and there were some
short rain showers. Even the next day the sun had now chance to brake
through. Not before the award ceremony.
But not only extreme
weather conditions, which are traditional for Reichenbach,
signed the event. The course by itself is one of the most difficult 24-hour
courses in Germany. It is an up and down all the time. There are many
stumbles parts at the course. So you have to be careful all the time. Even
the course is lighted very well during the night, people can fall worse. But
there were no big missions to do for the ambulance. The race was very
interesting. Up till the end there were hard fights at the elite. This
presented the spectators a very interesting and gripping race.
