11. stage at 06/29/2011 from Seligman, AZ to Ash Fork, AZ, (day: 30.7miles / overall.: 471miles)
This morning Laure mentioned a seven kilometer trail. Cars could not drive there. So the organization will provide an aid station. She asked the runners to be carefully at the uneven ground and not to switch our angle. Then we had our daily start photo with the LANY-banner. After it we started to the eleventh stage. Also today we were running mainly on Route 66. The course did not have any steep up hills, but it was a steady up and down. We passed another pass with 5700ft (1768m). Since yesterday there were while to while slogans from Burma Shave at the road. I really liked that one „And just for fun we`ll let you finish what we have begun!” It fits also to the TransAm, but not all of us will finish. Also we would not have always fun. There will be also time of hard and painful torture. After 30 kilometers we went on an unused part of Route 66. Because of the Highway it was not used anymore and they did not take care of it. It was more a bad farm track instead of a road. Only the signs remembered on the most important street between Los Angeles and Chicago. About five kilometers further the street stopped. We went on the trail. At the beginning of the trail David was sitting with a cool box filled with cool drinks and snacks. Already when we entered the bad street the course was marked with white chalk arrows. At the trail there were also bands. Half way there was another cool box with drinks. You have to say, that the organization did again very well work. Also they gave the advice to refill the liquid before entering the path. But it was not as hot as a few days ago. Also there were some clouds at the sky. There were trees like bushes. They are very low, but still they gave while to while some shadow. At the end of the trail we hit a street towards Route 66. Not long after that we arrived at the stage finish in Ash Fork. When I was sitting at the finish Patrick and Serge arrived. Because it was just a short stage the distances between the runners are not as big. We had a small talk and then went for showering. Laure had pre warned us. The accommodations are not as comfortable today. The rooms are small and there is not much luxury. But when we entered the room we were positively surprised. There was almost a full kitchen with refrigerator, oven and microwave. But there was no internet. But you do not need it all the time. I have to say that our live here with motels is much more comfortable than at the Trans-Europe-Footrace. There we slept most time on the mattress and still not be in a great need!
