This Morning Laure, Philippe, Makoto and I had a discussion. The problem was that Philippe will be without support after 07/23. Now he wanted to ask the Japanese to support him. Makoto agreed, but they had to fix some details. At our morning meeting we were told that we have to wear security jackets after 50 kilometers. The police told explicit to run on the right side of the street.

The first 35 kilometers were running besides the Rio Grande Gorge. It was a very idyllic region. On both sides piled the rock walls of the canyon. And we were in middle of it. Just next to the wild river. Till 20 kilometers we went always lightly up and down. Then we went up to get out of the canyon. There we had a wonderful view on the process of the canyon. To bad we were not close enough to have a look into it. Then we ran light downhill on the plateau till Taos. There we did a turn towards Palo Flechado Pass. More than 25 kilometers we went uphill at the mountain road till we reached the highest point of the race. On the left side there were precipices of the mountain. On the right side there was a small stream running towards the valley. When we arrived at 2783m altitudes also the first 1000 Miles were done. But this point got another specialty! Here was a watershed. The Upper Rio Grande, running towards us, ends at the Golf of Mexico. The Cimarron-River flows towards the Canadian River.

After that we followed our usual habits. We drank something, talk a bit with Laure, take some photos and going to the accommodation. The accommodation was at Angle Fire a ski village. Without the standard tourist attractions, some hotels and an air port there was nothing.

Bando started very fast today. He was not at the front, but at the middle field. But it was just for a few kilometers as I heard. Then he went back to his regular speed. Italo seemed to attack again. He ran slower yesterday. He arrived after Patrick and Serge. Today he was in front of them. That was the stand of the race, when I turned towards the pass. Turn is a good catchword. Even the race rules say there will be no markings we had again arrows on the ground. It is a nice thing. It gives you acknowledge and helps to wake up some sleepy head. They would have passed it otherwise.
