This morning we had to get up early again. At 2:45am the clock rang. We packed all together, had breakfast and put everything in the car. Then we drove about 30 minutes back to the start. All people arrived in time. Laure asked us to be careful and told us that the turns will be marked. Before the start we said good bye to James girl friend Gemma. She will be back with us just before New York.

The landscape was similar to yesterday. There were more hills and more wood. At the morning we passed the Oolagah Lake. From there we went towards Foyil. Just before we arrived we entered to the Route 66 again. WE were on it at the beginning of the race already for a long time. One day before yesterday we had halftime. Yesterday we had half way. Today at almost half way we passed the memorial of Andy Payne. What is so special about it? Well, Andy Payne was the winner of the first TransAm in 1928. He looked for sponsors giving him the $100 entry fee. In the end his father gave him the money. Also the first TransAm went trough Paynes hometown Foyil. Back then Andy won $25000. We just can dream about that today. After a minute of silence and some photos I continued on Route 66. The last ten kilometers we went to a gravel path road till we arrived at our stage finish in Big Cabin. Without a motel and a gas station there was nothing. Today we had very new weather conditions. It had rained during the night. So the humidity was very high. The sky was still cloudy and the temperatures did almost not pass 30°C (80°F). Only when the sun broke through, it was hot for a short time. Even it was cooler I sweat a lot. I was completely wet and almost felt cold when I was standing for a while. Today we had many dogs. At the end I saw from far away how a passing Sheriff helped Peter to get rid of two dogs. Later when Peter tried to do a good deed at a turtle, the turtle did not like that. While he tried to put her away from the street she attacked him and bit him into his arm.
