At the morning everyone waited for the news about Patrick. How he is and what happened yesterday. He was at the start line, but he knew, that there will be a vote. Still Laure first went trough the turnsheet. Before that she complimented everybody for the stage of yesterday. After she finished the turnsheet she told in short words about Patricks visit at the hospital. After that everybody voted for a continuing of Patrick. Even he was above the time limit.

From beginning on Italo tried to pace away. He saw a chance to get second place. But is it necessary to pass all red lights for that? Well, that is his decision. This morning it was quiet fogy and cool. But that changed soon. Most time we were running trough small cities and the first suburbs of New York. There was not much landscape to see. Instead there were some nice buildings. Today my day was different. Instead of having support from June I decided to go without her help. It was because of the incident of yesterday. According to this I sued my camelbak and enough money to go to gas stations and get some cool drinks. For me it already was clear, that it would be no problem today. I already had done such distances without back bag.

When I arrived at the finish line I heard the first bad news. Because of the hurricane the finish line might be already at Washington Bridge and not at Central Park. Already since days the hurricane was a big topic at the news all over the world. Peter tried this morning to convince me and take Junes support at the last day. So we can finish as a “lucky” team at New York. After I did some important shopping for tomorrow he went with June to clean up the car. It seemed for him was the good mute more important than solving the “problems”. Already during our conversations with June he tried always to temper the situation. Definitely a point we had different opinion. There was no doubt that the big happiness about New York was done. Therefore I had too many things annoying me during the last six weeks. During the afternoon Laure was calling. She and Bérengère stayed at New York to check out the situation as well as inspect the course. After we called it was sure we need a meeting tonight. I told her about my idea to start earlier. So we could be already at Manhattan, when the bridges get closed. Anneke came to me before we had dinner. She told me about a problem she had with Italo. Even she already had solved it with him personally. There was a dinner at the motel. It was a buffet just for us. But it was really rare. Less rare was the surprise of June. At the room we had asked her at which time we are going for the buffet. Se told us later. But she did not tell us, that she will go later with the Italians to have buffet. So when we got there together we were surprised she just disappeared to another table without telling us. What to tell? But because of that I definitely decided to run alone. That meant without support of June. As sooner the day and the race finished, as sooner I got rid of my wrong decision to take her as a supporter. During the first four weeks her support was excellent, but it stopped suddenly. Since then she was posing with her Italian. It seemed she did not care anymore about anything else and her job as a supporter. Many trails to mention it to her and begging her to take care of the support failed. Three big meetings had no earthly use. Without Peter I would drop her already out of support. So I stayed quiet and patient, because for him the incident of today was just another drawback.

But more important was the meeting we had to wait for. Bando was still having a shower. At the beginning of the meeting Laure excused for her mistakes during the last days. Actually little things, but for her as a perfectionist it was not. Now she explained the situation in New York and the resulting problems. There were two problems. One problem was that the Washington Bride, which gets us to New York, could be closed. On the other hand the Central Park was closed. It was because of the Hurricane Irene. So we had to find a new place for the finish line. The weather broadcast said rain. The “stopover” at the Starbucks, as Laure planed it at the beginning was cancelled. Now the runners go directly to the Novotel. No matte on the placement. To minimize the first problem the start of the first group was changed to 5am. Also the group was split and a second group starts at 6am. In the end Peter, Italo and I started at 7am as the third group. To get a final time for all runners at the same finish line a split time as the Washington Bridge will be taken. If not all runners are able to pass the bridge that will be the final time.
