16. stage at 05/05/2012 from Penzance to Lands End, (day: 9.3miles / overall.: 863.7miles)
It was the last time! Getting up, having breakfast and get on the road! This morning Ann’s husband and brother arrived. They came to pick her up. I started at 8:30 am. So I had enough time for a long sleep. When I got up my breakfast was already finished as usual. Rory and Jen had to leave earlier. They had to fix everything for my final finish. Also Ann, her husband and her brother left for Lands End. Paul brought me back to the ocean promenade. We waited at the bus until we were called from Rory. After we had the start command via phone Paul drove home. I went on the last 16 km (10 miles) to Lands End. There were some small hills until we got there, but I did not really recognise them. I had the feeling my feet were doing the rest of the course by themselves. Just after I left Penzance, Mel with her family were waiting. She came to see me finishing. The mileage on the milestones to Lands End became smaller. More and more bicycles are oncoming. They have the whole way we did during the past 15 days to do. Slowly the ocean came up on the left and right side. The time of running passed fast. Suddenly I can see the white houses of the hotels and tourism complex of Lands End. At the finish line people complimented me, hugged me and we did a lot of photos. Then we went to the Lands End sign. It was similar to the one in John O`Groats. We took the final photos. Then we continued with the relaxing part. We went to the restaurant and had a good hot coffee. Then we went home or rather for me to Bristol and then to London. Rory and Jen took me with them to Bristol. So I could take the train to London.
