02. stage at 04/21/2012 from Brora to Beauly, (day: 56.6miles / overall.: 120.5miles)
While the first started at 5am I could sleep longer. After the first group started Tom H, Andy W. and I got up. There were almost three hours until the start. We had enough time to have breakfast, watch the news and have some small talk. According to the weather broadcast we would not have better weather as yesterday. There will be from time to time some showers. At 9am also Steve P. and I are allowed to start. We ran together for the first 5 miles (8 km), before I continued by myself. There was almost no wind today and warmer. It was possible to start without a jacket. At the first aid station I got the first sad picture of the day. Katherine Hay-Heddle was sitting at the car. She had to stop because of walking problems. At the second aid station I caught up to Tom H. He was starting with the 8am group. The first runners of the 6am group I passed just before the next aid station. Therer I got hit by a rain shower. It did not hold on for a long time, but was enough to get wet. Today it was a steadily on and off of the jacket. If there was wind coming up or it rained it was not possible to run without a jacket. Otherwise it was to warm. After about 35 miles (56 km) I had passed everyone. The course was always a slight up and down and went slowly away from the sea. We passed old castles and whisky distilleries. Also today there where almost no turns. But people should be careful not to pass them, as it happed last year. Today I finished late afternoon. It was quite strange, because there was not much time left to do anything. Eating something, take a hot shower and then having dinner. Just behind me Rory, Jen, Katherine and Tim Oliver arrived. He was the second to stop today. Tom E. arrived as one of the last ones. He told us that Mel and he were almost hit by a lorry. There was not much time left for him to celebrate his birthday, because he had to get up again early. He was starting again at the 6am group.
