05. stage at 04/24/2012 from Tyndrum to Pollok, (day: 57.7miles / overall.: 288.0miles)
Starting today we had only three groups. One at 5:30am, the second at 7am and I at 9am. After a good breakfast I was allowed to go on the road as well. Luckily there was no snow today. We heard there was some new snow yesterday, but it had already melted during the morning hours. Today we continued through the “heart of Scotland”. After we were running besides Loch Lomond at the beginning, the A82 turned into a motorway like road. Also the drivers changed and where more unfriendly. Not willing to make any space anymore. The road brought us to Glasgow. We went though the suburbs during the last 15 miles (24 km). Just before the end we arrived at the infamous Clyde tunnel. Because of the criminal activity it was closed by the police. To pass it we had to press a button. Then a gate opened and we could enter the gate. As soon as the gate closed the second gate opened. There was the same system at the end of the tunnel. When I passed the tunnel I messaged Rory. So he was relieved. From the tunnel there where only a few kilometers left until we reached the suburb Pollok. Arrived at the finish line I first went to have a warm shower. When I came back also Mel had arrived. She dropped out at the second aid station. So there were only five left. It took a while until Steve P. had arrived. There was also a big gab between him and Andy H. At the evening some of the runners told their stories about the tunnel. They had a hard time when they asked people for direction to get to it. It seemed they did not get a clear answer where it is. On the other hand I could not tell anything bad, because I got through very well.
