Midwintermarathon in Apeldoorn, Netherlands

Midwintermarathon and at that in February? Well, as I think the given name is not the best, but therefore the event is great. Against the marathon there was also a 27.5km, 18.5km and 8.5km course. The entry was placed at the theatre Orpeus. Start and finish were in front of the theatre. So the runners had not to stay a long time in the cold. It was broadcasted rain and wind for the weekend, but Petrus liked us and we had blue sky with some breezes. But still it was a little chilly.

At 12am the marathon and the 27.5 started. Both courses ran together for the first loop. Then the 27.5km finished and the marathon had to do another loop. The course was mainly on the road. It went outside of Apeldoorn, through the woods, a park and landscape similar to the Heath. Every five kilometres there was an aid station. There was a huge variety of drinks. Because of the beautiful weather, there were plenty of spectaculars.

Once we arrived at the finish, there was a shuttle bus to the shower as they were placed about 2km away. After the race the people got away very quick. There was not the comfortable being together like at other races. Even though the theatre has a nice area to sit down.
